Azzurri: Inzaghi picked for Budapest
Saturday 18 August, 2007

Roberto Donadoni has called Pippo Inzaghi and Angelo Palombo for Italyís friendly test against Hungary next Wednesday.

The
Azzurri boss was in the stands for last nightís Trofeo Berlusconi
match, in which Inzaghi bagged both of Milanís goals in the 2-0 victory
over Juventus.

Sampdoria
midfielder Palombo made his senior international debut in Donadoniís
first match in charge, a 2-0 defeat to Croatia on August 16, 2006, and
has two caps to his name.

However, the 25-year-old had not been called up since the 1-1 draw with Turkey on November 15, 2006.

There
are precious few new faces in the squad for next Wednesdayís match in
Budapest, although Romaís Alberto Aquilani and Gianluca Curci graduate
from the Under-21 side.

Aquilani
had made his senior debut in the 1-1 draw with Turkey in November 2006,
but returned to the Azzurrini for the European Under-21 Championships.

This is goalkeeper Curciís first ever senior call-up for the Nazionale and he turned 22 last month.

It
is a warm-up for the crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers against France and
Ukraine in September and Donadoni had warned this was no time for
surprises.

The team must meet in Milan on Monday morning for their first training session.

Italy squad

Goalkeepers: Amelia, Buffon, Curci

Defenders: Barzagli, Cannavaro, Grosso, Materazzi, Oddo, Zaccardo, Zambrotta

Midfielders: Ambrosini, Aquilani, Diana, Gattuso, Palombo, Pirlo

Forwards: Del Piero, Di Natale, Inzaghi, Quagliarella, Toni

wow we drew by far the easiest group for our WC qualifiers. If we don't have a perfect record we I'll die.

group 8 : ITALY, Bulgaria, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus, Georgia, Montenegro

England got croatia again

bitter sweet revenge for them... IF they manage to land a good manager.

italy should automatically qualify

but i think its good ena they play as a team b4 the tournament starts.. we all remember what happened to france vs senegal in 2002

easy group.. donadoni shouldnt face any problems

Cause UEFA dislikes ITALY and all of their club teams. Very obvious, they fucked over Milan several times in Champions League. ex: when we were supposed to be handed over the Champions League I think in 1992 because the team we played against in the final were all doped and one of their players wrote it in his book.

There was this big thing about it last year.

Last week Donadoni named a 24-man provisional squad for
Austrian and Switzerland,
from which he would then have to cut one player before submitting his final
squad to UEFA at midday on May 29 (tomorrow).

Fiorentina midfielder Montolivo was always the favourite to
get the chop, but other candidates were Roma duo Alberto Aquilani and Simone Perrotta,
the latter who has been struggling with injury, as well as strikerís Fabio
Quagliarella and Marco Borriello.

As expected Montolivo is the player discarded, and he will
now be a standby, in case an injured player is forced to leave the squad
between now and the start of the Euros.

Full Italy Squad for Euro 2008

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Marco Amelia (Livorno), Morgan
De Sanctis (Sevilla)

Defenders: Cristian Panucci (Roma), Fabio Cannavaro (Real Madrid),
Andrea Barzagli (Palermo), Marco Materazzi (Inter), Fabio Grosso (Lyon),
Gianluca Zambrotta (Barcelona), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus)

Midfielders: Rino Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Massimo Ambrosini (Milan),
Daniele De Rossi, Simone Perrotta, Alberto Aquilani (Roma), Mauro German
Camoranesi (Juventus)

Forwards: Luca Toni (Bayern Munich), Marco Borriello (Genoa), Antonio Di
Natale, Fabio Quagliarella (Udinese), Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus), Antonio
Cassano (Sampdoria)

Standby: Riccardo
Montolivo (Fiorentina)
